Job summary

MICA Steelworks is seeking a Fitter Trainee to lay out, fit and assemble tapered tubular steel structures. You will work from blueprints and produce fit-ups that meet UT-passable weld standards, supporting our production of poles and frames.

Training pathways are provided, with a defined ladder and raises at each certification level. This role starts on 2nd shift with potential overtime, contributing to a hands-on skilled-trade career in North Texas.

Qualifications

• Read a tape measure to 1/16 inch and perform basic shop math.
• Able to pass the NewHire Fitter Assessment (tape measure, shop math, blueprint & weld symbols, practical fitup).
• Willing to work 2nd shift and overtime; reliable attendance.
• Able to read blueprints and layout parts per design specs.
• Pass background checks, drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision tests.

Responsibilities

• Perform fitting and joining, fabricating, and repairing of metal to blueprint specifications.
• Set up layouts using jigs/fixtures or hand layouts to fabricate parts.
• Locate seams and verify alignment against acceptance criteria.
• Lay out and fit base plates, flanges, brackets, and similar components.
• Fabricate multi-component parts and verify conformance using measuring tools.
• Operate cranes, hoists, grinders, torches and hand/power tools safely.
