Job summary

Gulf Island is seeking a skilled fitter/welder to perform fabrication tasks on iron and steel structures in accordance with blueprints and ISO/QC standards. The role requires reading specs, measuring, cutting, fitting, and installing components outdoors in industrial environments.

Candidates must speak English and Spanish, have at least 5 years of relevant experience, and pass pre-employment checks. The job involves working with cutting torches, grinders, and welding equipment; safety, teamwork,

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
• Ability to read and write in English and Spanish.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in fitter/welder roles.
• Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
• Measure, cut, fit, and install iron/steel braces, beams, plates, and pipe as per schedules.
• Follow fitting procedures for offshore jackets, decks, heliports, and production facilities.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Follow safety and QA procedures according to ISO/QC standards.

Description

Main Purpose:

To perform job functions required and/or assigned in the fabrication of iron as steel structures in accordance with the contract/job specifications and quality assurance requirements/fitting procedures and established ISO/QC program standards.

Essential Functions:

• Follow written and/or verbal instructions with little or no supervision.
• Read and interpret blueprint and specification schedules.
• Perform mathematical calculations, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, angles, etc.,
• Measure, cut, fit, and/or install iron and steel braces, beams, plates, pipe, etc., in accordance to blueprint and job specifications schedules.
• Follow fitting procedures and principles used in the fabrication of offshore jackets, decks, heliports, production facilities, etc.
• Perform other related job duties as assigned in a safe and efficient manner; also, see physical requirements.
• Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

Physical Requirements:

• Standing: This is an essential job function/physical requirement.

Job Requirements:

• Must speak Fluent English and Spanish.
• Must be able to read and write in English and Spanish.
• Must have a minimum of 5 Years of experience and be able to successfully demonstrate the ability to pass a written and practical fitter/Welder test.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Desirable Experience/Training:

• Highschool diploma or GED.

Tools and Equipment Used:

• Fitters must have knowledge of and use cutting torches, measuring tapes, calculators, levels, man-lifts and/or high-reach equipment, welding machines, chipping hammers, pressure chippers, power grinders, etc. Must be able to read and write.

Environmental Conditions:

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet, and dry conditions, dust, mud, etc. They will also be exposed to paint thinner and paint fumes.
