Job summary

Peak Utility Services Group is seeking an Operator I to join our gas fitters team in the field. The role involves installing, inspecting, repairing and maintaining gas lines and equipment such as meters and regulators, while performing laborer duties.

The position requires 1+ year experience with underground utilities, and a valid Commercial Driver's License is preferred. Pay rate ranges from $24 to $30 per hour, DOE, with a non-exempt classification and on-site work expectations.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience with underground utilities required.
  • Education and experience may substitute on a year-to-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assists crew leader in construction, reconstruction and maintenance work.
  • Assists equipment operators by swamping, hand digging and locating underground obstructions.
  • Works with fusion machines, jackhammers, rotary drills, power actuated fasteners and other tools.
  • Signals equipment operators to align, move and adjust machinery and materials.
  • Keeps worksites safe around heavy equipment and cleans construction sites.
  • Performs plastic pipe fusion including socket, butt, mechanical, saddle and electro-fusion.
  • Taps and stops plastic and steel gas fittings.
  • Performs cathodic protection work including installation of anodes and test leads.
  • Loads and unloads materials and equipment onto trucks by hand.
  • Installs gas meters, regulators, piping and pipe fittings.
  • Repairs gas leaks including above/below ground systems.
  • Maintains legible daily records and installation logs.

Gas Fitters/Fusers install, inspect, repair and maintain gas lines and gas equipment such as meters and regulators. The Gas Fitter/Fuser must perform all Laborer essential duties and responsibilities.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assists crew leader in construction, reconstruction and maintenance work
  • Assists equipment operators by swamping, hand digging and locating underground obstructions
  • Works with specialized equipment including fusion machines, jackhammers, rotary drills, power actuated fasteners and other industry tools
  • Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
  • Works safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers and dump truck
  • Cleans and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Performs plastic pipe fusion including socket, butt, mechanical, saddle and electro-fusion
  • Taps and stops plastic and steel gas fittings
  • Performs cathodic protection work including installation of anodes, test leads and pipe to soil measurements
  • Loads and unloads materials, tools, and equipment onto and from trucks by hand
  • Installs gas meters, regulators, piping and pipe fitting work with black iron pipe
  • Repairs gas leaks including above ground meter sets and piping and below ground steel and plastic
  • Keeps legible, hand-written, accurate records including daily work logs and installation records
Experience And Education
  • One (1+) plus years experience working with underground utilities is required
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year to year basis
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications
  • Fitter certification is required
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License is required
  • Candidates must pass Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, a Department of Transportation (DOT) regulated physical as a requirement of the job and pass a pre-employment drug screen
