Job summary

Essential Utilities, Inc., operating as Aqua and Peoples/Delta brands, seeks a Fitter to perform skilled duties for natural gas piping system installation, operation and maintenance. Location available: Etna; eligibility requires living within 45 minutes of this location.

This position is regulated under 49 CFR Part 192 and includes random drug testing. Responsibilities include setting and repairing meters, operating backhoes and other heavy equipment, digging ditches, and connecting mainlines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Must obtain Class A CDL.
• Experience outdoors with construction/manual labor.
• Backhoe operation proficiency required during probation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in construction, operation, and maintenance of gas systems.
• Set meters, retire old meters, set curb boxes, repair service lines.
• Repair leaks and connect/disconnect meters.
• Use tapping and air compressor equipment; connect at mainlines.
• Dig ditches, backfill, carry tools and materials; operate heavy equipment.

The Fitter will perform skilled duties and operate equipment for the operation, maintenance and installation of natural gas piping system and related natural gas facilities.

Responsibilities Include

• Assisting in the construction, operation and maintenance of gas distribution, transportation or production system.
• Setting meters, retiring old meter sets, setting curb boxes, repairing service lines, connecting and disconnecting meters, repairing leaks.
• Using tapping and other air compressor equipment and making connections at mainlines.
• Performing ditch digging, back filling, carrying tools and materials connected with the job.
• Operating one or more of the following types of equipment: backhoes, excavators, dump trucks.

This position is a covered function regulated by 49 CFR Part 192 (pipeline safety rules) and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Proven experience working outdoors performing construction/manual labor.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment, backhoe experience is preferred. Successful candidates will be required to become operationally qualified and demonstrate proficiency in the operation of a backhoe during his or her probationary period.
• Successful completion of a background investigation, including criminal history report, motor vehicle report and a DOT drug screening.
• Strong preference will be given to applicants with prior pipeline experience.
