Job summary

Chart, Inc. is seeking a fitter to support cryogenic equipment fabrication in New Iberia, LA. You will review drawings, lay out square tubing, erect walls and roof sections, and fit piping and manifolds per detailed plans.

You will operate cranes, identify material grades, and ensure joints meet tolerances while handling aluminum and stainless materials. The role requires standing, lifting up to 50lbs, and PPE usage on site.

Qualifications

• Basic reading and math skills required.
• Able to pass hands-on structure, piping and vessel fitting tests.
• 1–2 years minimum reading and interpreting blueprints as a fitter.

Responsibilities

• Review and fit using vessel, piping, and structural fabrication drawings and blueprints.
• Lay out square tubing material for wall fabrication.
• Erect walls, roof, and floor structures.
• Fit advanced piping components and interconnecting spool pipe.
• Fit manifolds and vessels to detailed drawings.
• Operate cranes and material handling equipment.
• Identify varying material types and grades.
• Identify material from cut lists to determine lengths and angles.
• Review and fit to joint details to achieve correct tolerances.
• Prepare materials such as aluminum and stainless.
• Work with fittings designed for cryogenic service at high pressure.
• Clean materials for welding using power and hand tools.
• Work with tackers to secure joints for fabrication.
• Maintain fitting tools and work areas.
• Rigging materials for secure transportation.
• Verify final as-built dimensions with quality technicians.

What Will You Do?

14. Maintaining fitting tools and work areas.
15. Rigging materials for secure transportation.
16. Verifying final as-built dimensions with quality technicians.

Your Physical Work Environment Will Require…

• Working on equipment at ground level or elevated heights.
• Working at heights above 6’ with appropriate safety measures.
• Continuous movement throughout the day.
• Standing or climbing for extended periods of time.
• Working around and with machinery.
• Working indoors or outdoors.
• Moving, lifting, and rigging components up to 50lbs.
• Working around co-workers and other assemblies.
• Wearing required PPE for different tasks.

Your Experience Should Be...

1. Basic reading and math skills.
2. Able to pass a hands-on structure, piping and vessel fitting test and general fitting knowledge test.
3. A minimum of 1–2 years of experience in reading and interpreting blueprints as a fitter

The hourly pay scale for this role is $16.50 to 38.50. Placement within the range is dependent upon qualifications, skill proficiency, and successful completion of onsite skills testing.
