Job summary

Ascent Aerospace is seeking a skilled metal fabrication inspector/installer to verify and adjust fabricated structures per CAD drawings in a fast-paced shop environment.

Responsibilities include inspecting with a laser tracker, fixing fittings, and preparing fixtures for CNC machining, while maintaining 5S and safety standards across site operations. Travel to other sites may occur.

Qualifications

  • 5 yrs Experience with metalworking and metal fabrication preferred.
  • Understanding of metallurgy and heat treatment techniques and processes.
  • Prior experience desirable with operating a laser tracker.
  • Good mathematical aptitude and good judgment skills.
  • Has at least 3 years of verifiable relevant work experience in industrial manufacturing.
  • Experience with large material handling using forklifts & overhead cranes.
  • Must possess proven and demonstrated mechanical skills, as well as good working knowledge and experience of machine processes.
  • This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22.C.F.R. § is required

Responsibilities

  • Fits and tacks metal components to fabricate metal structures according to a CAD model.
  • Inspects & validates metal structures with a laser tracker to ensure proper amount of stock for CNC machining.
  • Establishes reference system of complex metal structures for setup on a CNC machine.
  • Troubleshoot fabrication issues and identify repair plans for metal structures that do not meet dimensional requirements.
  • May review shop engineering drawings and models to assess and troubleshoot fabrication issues.
  • Repair metal structures by grinding, plasma cutting and saw cutting in accordance with quality and safety standards.
  • Build & setup fixtures used for repairing structures.
  • Measure & grind metal framework using a laser tracker to fit into tolerance.
  • Operates a forklift and crane in accordance with safety standards.
  • Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety procedures
  • Inspect fabricated components to ensure accuracy and quality standards are met
  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation
  • Participate and take responsibility for 5S.

Summary of Position

Required to inspect and adjust fabricated metal structures to meet required tolerances, fix and grind if required, assist in fitting & fabricating structures to customer required models and drawings, rig structures for CNC machining.

  • Build & setup fixtures used for repairing structures.
  • Measure & grind metal framework using a laser tracker to fit into tolerance.
  • Operates a forklift and crane in accordance with safety standards.
  • Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety procedures
  • Inspect fabricated components to ensure accuracy and quality standards are met
  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation
  • Participate and take responsibility for 5S.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Required Skills, Education & Experience

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:

  • 5 yrs Experience with metalworking and metal fabrication preferred.

  • Knowledge of GD&T, shop math, and blueprint reading.
  • Laser tracker experience (alignment, data collection, best fit).
  • Some knowledge of common manufacturing processes including cutting, fabrication, machining, and assembly.
  • Forklift and crane operating skills.
