Job summary

North Shore Steel is seeking an experienced Night Shift Pipefitter to support fit-up and assembly of structural pipe and pressure vessel components per AWS/ASME codes. The role emphasizes joint prep, dimensional accuracy, and alignment prior to welding.

The position is a night shift (6 PM–6 AM) requiring focus, consistency, and attention to detail. You will work with welders and QA to ensure code-compliant results and maintain safe, organized workspaces.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a pipe fitter or structural fitter in an industrial environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
  • Understanding of fit-up tolerances, joint preparation, and alignment.

Responsibilities

Night Shift (6 PM – 6 AM)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced structural pipeFitterto support fit-up and assembly of structural pipe and pressure vessel components in accordance withAWS and ASME code requirements. This role is critical to ensuring proper joint preparation, alignment, and dimensional accuracy prior to welding.

This is a Night shift role (6 PM – 6 AM)requiring focus, consistency, and attention to detail.

Key responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpretblueprints, drawings, and weld symbols
  • Measure, cut, and prepare materials to required specifications
  • Perform precision fit-up for weld joints, includingproper gap, bevel, and alignment
  • Use tools such asgrinders, torches, levels, and measuring devices
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, and alignment prior to welding
  • Collaborate with welders and Quality to ensurecode-compliant results
  • Identify and correct fit-up issues before welding begins
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe, working condition
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant withsafety standards

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience as apipe fitter or structural fitter in an industrial environment
  • Strong ability to read and interpretblueprints and weld symbols
  • Understanding offit-up tolerances, joint preparation, and alignment
  • Experience working withpipe, plate, or structural steel components
  • Ability to use measuring tools accurately (tape, level, square, etc.)
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic and reliability in a production environment

Preferred Experience (Strongly Valued)

  • Experience inpipe fabrication or pressure vessel environments
  • Familiarity withAWS or ASME codes
  • Prior experience supportingNDE-quality welding operations
  • Ability to perform basictack welding (GMAW, FCAW)
  • GMAW and FCAW welding processes

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently on a routine basis and handle materials safely as part of daily job duties.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain safe body positioning while performing tasks and moving through the work area, including walking on concrete floors and uneven surfaces.
  • Frequent squatting, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting, requiring full-body mobility, balance, and upper- and lower-body strength to perform work safely.
  • Manual agility to operate tools safely and effectively, with regular use of arms, shoulders, and back for lifting, reaching, and positioning tasks.
  • Ability to work safely in a warehouse environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
  • Maintain adequate visual and auditory acuity to safely perform assigned tasks, including but not limited to: identifying potential hazards, reading and/or recording measurements, inspecting materials, and responding promptly to verbal instructions, alarms or hand signals in the work environment
