Job summary

Peoples Natural Gas in Gibsonia, part of Essential Utilities, is hiring a skilled general laborer to support gas distribution operations. The role involves construction, maintenance, and installation work on gas piping systems, with emphasis on setting meters and repairing lines.

Candidates should have a High School diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL. Experience outdoors and operating heavy equipment is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
• Proven experience working outdoors performing construction/manual labor.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment; backhoe experience preferred.
• Successful completion of a background investigation including DOT drug screening.
• Strong preference for applicants with prior pipeline experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the construction, operation and maintenance of gas distribution, transportation or production system.
• Set meters, retire old meter sets, set curb boxes, repair service lines, connecting and disconnecting meters, repairing leaks.
• Use tapping and other air compressor equipment and making connections at mainlines.
• Perform ditch digging, back filling, carrying tools and materials connected with the job.
• Operate one or more of the following types of equipment: backhoes, excavators, dump trucks.

The Fitter will perform skilled duties and operate equipment for the operation, maintenance and installation of natural gas piping system and related natural gas facilities.

This position is a covered function regulated by 49 CFR Part 192 (pipeline safety rules) and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

• Strong preference will be given to applicants with prior pipeline experience.
