Job summary

Aquila is hiring a Fitness Specialist in Washington, DC for a temporary 12-week engagement. The role supports members with safe exercise, conducts training sessions, and administers assessments in a 40-hour week, Monday–Friday, on site.

The candidate will provide nutrition coaching, maintain equipment, and ensure policies are followed while delivering top-tier member service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or active NCCA accreditation is required.
  • CPR/BLS certification or equivalent is required.
  • US citizenship is required for government location.
  • Full-time, in-person work Mon-Fri in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise exercise areas and educate members on safe techniques.
  • Conduct personal fitness training sessions and assessments.
  • Provide nutrition and lifestyle counseling guidance to members.
  • Prescribe exercise per ACSM guidelines and interpret fitness data.
  • Maintain equipment safety, cleanliness, and room policies.

Description

Aquila's Fitness Specialist (temporary, full-time) assists members in safe and effective exercise and performs a wide range of technical exercise and administrative duties in health/fitness center.

Job Type

This opening is a temporary position expected to last for twelve weeks, starting at the end of December 2026.

Pay Rate

The base salary for this position is $22.36/hour with a 40-hour week.

Location

This is an in-person position Monday-Friday located in Washington, DC.

Work Hours

Full-time 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday. Work hours are 8 am to 4 pm.

Responsibilities include
  • Supervise exercise areas
  • Educate members concerning safe exercise techniques
  • Conduct personal fitness training sessions
  • Provide to membership weight loss based nutrition counseling and counseling regarding learning basic lifestyle changes or health coaching
  • Perform exercise assessments and prescribe exercise upon American College of Sports Medicine guidelines
  • Conduct safe and effective assessments including cardiovascular, strength, flexibility and body composition analysis; evaluate and interpret data and identify high risk participants and special populations
  • Aid members - spotting and equipment usage
  • Explain all equipment
  • Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of all equipment
  • Adhere to departmental and club policies and procedures
  • Adhere to clients policies and procedures
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Assist in wellness and fitness promotions and external events
  • Perform daily administrative duties
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or Health Promotion or Related Field OR active NCCA accredited Fitness Certification - (ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, NCSF, NCCPT or AFAA or any other that is NCCA accredited)
  • Certified in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) for the Professional Rescuer; or equivalent
  • Must be a U.S. citizen as this is a government location
  • Able to work full time, 5 days a week, in person, Monday-Friday
