Fitness Floor Associate-Part Time
POSITION SUMMARY:
Part Time
Under the supervision of the Fitness Coordinator/Director or Branch Director and consistent withthe mission of the YMCA, the Fitness Floor Associate is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean,and welcoming fitness environment. This position actively monitors the fitness floor, assistsmembers with proper equipment use and exercise technique, corrects unsafe practices, andprovides positive member engagement. Engages it Wellness and Branch events.
- Actively monitors and encourages members throughout the fitness areas and provides guidance on safe exercise practices. Demonstrates proper exercise techniques and equipment use and identifies and corrects unsafe or improperform.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized fitness environment. Regularly monitors fitness areas for unsafe exercise practices, improper equipment use, trip hazards, damaged equipment, and other potential safety concerns. Performs routine cleaning and organization of fitness equipment and areas.
- Monitors fitness equipment for proper operation and reports damaged, malfunctioning, or unsafe equipment to the appropriate supervisor. Removes or restricts access to equipment when unsafe or according to YMCA procedures.
- Reinforces YMCA fitness area rules, including Youth Fitness Guidelines, Code of Conduct, policies and appropriately addresses unsafe behavior, improper equipment use, or other conduct that may create a safety concern.
- Actively patrols all assigned fitness areas and provides safe and appropriate spotting assistance when needed. Assist Group Ex and other fitness programsas needed.
- Welcomes and engages members throughout the fitness area, builds positiverelationships, and provides assistance when appropriate. Name recognition ofmembers is desired.
- Provides general fitness, EGYM and equipment orientations and refers membersseeking individualized exercise programming or personal training toappropriately qualified staff.
- Helps new members feel comfortable and connected within the fitnessenvironment.
- Understands and follows established emergency and safety procedures andresponds appropriately when needed.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
- Adult and Pediatric First Aid/AED/CPR within 60 days of hire.
- Working knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, fitness principles, safeexercise technique, and fitness equipment use. Comfort in Fitness areasrequired.
- Ability to demonstrate proper exercise form and equipment use and recognizeand appropriately correct unsafe exercise practices.
- Ability and willingness to approach members professionally to provideassistance/spotting, correct unsafe practices, and reinforce fitness areaexpectations.
- Relevant fitness education, experience, or nationally recognized fitnesscertification preferred.
- Ability to provide welcoming, professional, and informed member service.
- Ability to reach overhead and bend to floor using proper body mechanics.
- Ability to demonstrate proper form while demonstrating exercises.
- Ability to carry, sit, see, hear, speak, run, crouch and walk.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and reposition fitness equipment and weights weighing up to 45 pounds using proper body mechanics.
