We Have the Job for You! The Fitness Coordinator contributes to the success of Campus Recreation by serving on the fitness team and assisting with fitness-related programs, operations and equipment. This position will supervise student employees, provide opportunities for participation in both informal and structured fitness programs, and maintain equipment inventory. Additionally, this position supports the overall success of the University and the well‑being of the USC community by fostering a positive and welcoming environment through collaboration, teamwork, professionalism, and a commitment to belonging in all interactions with students, staff, faculty, and patrons. Through exceptional customer service, meaningful engagement, and a commitment to continuous improvement, this position enhances the student experience while advancing unit, departmental, and University goals. Performance is guided by the department’s foundational expectations of adaptability, purposeful work, effective communication, productivity, and continuous improvement.

  • Student Services – Contribute to the quality of students learning experience and academic success by transitioning students to a campus environment and meeting any specific academic resource needs they may have
  • Financial operations – Complete planning, analysis and control operations responsible for the management of funds. Ensure compliance with university policies and state and federal laws and regulations
  • Administrative Support – Ensure effectiveness of daily operations of supported areas which may include scheduling, customer service, data entry, documentation, records management, and assisting in the specific needs of the area

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

  • Must possess a current American Red Cross First Aid/ CPR / AED instructor certification or acquire within 180 days of hire date.
  • Must possess one of the following fitness certification(s) (Personal Training or Strength and Conditioning) from an accredited national organization ( ACE , AFAA , NASM , ACSM ) or acquire within 180 days of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Facility Management, Student Services Experience or related field, 1 year related experience.
  • Next term graduates will be considered if they will be able to obtain their degree by the date of employment.
  • Relevant experience in general fitness management and personal training oversight.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Skilled in student supervision and fitness programming organization, as well as the ability to instruct a variety of fitness programs. Ability to supervise student employees and complete detailed reports. Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills. Ability to make sound decisions and implement emergency action plans when needed. Ability to successfully implement creative, state of the art fitness programs. Ability to teach a variety of fitness programs to participants and provide training / instruction to student employees.
