Job summary

Salve Regina University in Newport, RI seeks a dedicated fitness center professional to manage day-to-day operations of the university's fitness facilities, supporting staff, students and nearly 600 student-athletes across 20 varsity programs.

Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION:

To assist with the management of the day-to-day operations of the University 5K and 2K square foot fitness facilities while supporting University staff and students including nearly 600 student-athletes within 20 varsity programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide day-to-day coverage of the fitness center, at times without supervision.
  • Assist the Fitness Center Manager in the hiring and supervising of work-study employees during the school year.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of innovative programs to encourage the use of the fitness center during the school year.
  • Provide strength and conditioning and educational support for all Athletic Programs.
  • Provide maintenance to equipment utilized in the fitness center.
  • Must adhere to all NCAA/NEWMAC/Salve Regina University rules and regulations.
  • In particular, all coaches and athletics personnel are charged with being knowledgeable and assuring and monitoring compliance by all student-athletes, staff and assistant coaches with applicable governing constitutions, by‑laws, rules, policies, interpretations and regulations of the NCAA, the University and appropriate athletics conference. Staff members shall immediately advise the Compliance Office if there is reason to believe that violations have occurred or will occur and shall cooperate fully in any investigation of possible NCAA or Conference violations.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Fitness Center Manager, or Director of Athletics.
  • Attend all departmental meetings as required, and all Admissions Open Houses when necessary.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Valid driver's license in good standing.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The incumbent is subject to both inside and outside work and could encounter extreme weather conditions.

WORK SCHEDULE:

The is a full-time, 10-month per year position (August 1 - May 31).

Requirements:
  • Required : Bachelor's degree (Physical Education or related field) required.
  • NSCA CSCS Certification (which includes CPR, First Aid Certification) required.
  • Flexible hours required. This includes weekends and nights.
  • The successful candidate will possess highly developed communication and organizational skills, efficiency in computer usage and a high degree of self-motivation and dedication to all aspects of the intercollegiate program. Ability to work as a team member but also initiate projects independently.
  • Must promote and foster an environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to work effectively in the environment of an academically demanding institution and abide by all NCAA Division III, New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference, and Salve Regina University policies.
  • Preferred : A minimum of one to three years of strength and conditioning experience is preferred.
  • A strong foundation and full appreciation and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations is preferred.
