Job summary

The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Chicago is seeking a Fitness Center Attendant to support the Fitness Center Manager and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for members. This role involves supervising, orienting new lifters, maintaining cleanliness, handling memberships, and responding to emergencies with professionalism.

You will work with staff and volunteers, enforce center rules, and help guests access programs while upholding the center's mission and policies.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency. Certification or a degree in related field or level of experience preferred.
  • Two years or more experience working with fitness center equipment.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have current credentials and/or certificates and /or license, if required.
  • Experience with a computer based work environment.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist under supervision of the Fitness Center Manager.
  • Maintain cleanliness of facility by cleaning equipment and training areas, vacuuming and sweeping.
  • Offer regular weight room orientation/instructional sessions to members.
  • Verifying membership status.
  • Insure the ability to move about fitness area and proper usage by patrons.
  • Enforce facility regulations and safety for authorized patrons.
  • Provide information about available programs.
  • Report equipment and facility problems to the Fitness Center Manager.
  • Enforce all rules in the fitness/exercise room and facility.
  • Work with volunteers professionally.
  • Assist in emergencies or accidents.
  • Handle disputes with participants professionally.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and report issues to supervisor.
  • Follow Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain Code of Ethics for the Kroc Center.
  • Recognize spiritual needs and potential referrals to pastoral team.
  • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Fitness Center Attendant

LOCATION/DEPT: RJKCCC

REPORTS TO: Fitness Center Manager

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt

PAY GRADE: 201

PAY RANGE: $17.05-$20.70

MISSION

OUTCOMES

Under the direction of the Fitness Center Manager, Fitness Center Attendants will provide excellent customer service and encourage safety in the Fitness Center.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Will assist and work under the supervision of the Fitness Center Manager.
  2. Maintain cleanliness of facility by cleaning equipment and training areas, vacuuming and sweeping.
  3. Offer regular weight room orientation/instructional sessions to the members at various times throughout the day to adequately respond to the novice lifter.
  4. Verifying membership status.
  5. Insure the ability to move about fitness area insuring proper usage by patrons.
  6. Insure the safe use of the facility by enforcement of facility regulations and insuring that authorized patrons use the facility.
  7. Provide information and answer questions about available programs.
  8. Report all equipment and fitness area problems to the Fitness Center Manager. Will notify members and staff when machines are out of working order or in need of repair.
  9. Enforce all rules that pertain to the fitness and exercise room and facility on a constant basis.
  10. Work with volunteers and work with them on a professional level.
  11. Assist in any emergencies or accidents.
  12. Handle disputes with participants and students in a professional manner.
  13. Maintain a safe working environment; Report all harmful problems with facilities to the proper supervisor.
  14. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  15. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center.
  16. Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the pastoral team.
  17. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency. Certification or a degree in related field or level of experience preferred.
  • Two years or more experience working with fitness center equipment.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have current credentials and/or certificates and /or license, if required.
  • Experience with a computer based work environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use equipment that is part of athletic and recreational programs. At times this employee is required to lift up to 40 pounds. The work environment for this position includes high levels of noise and flexibility in a constant changing environment.
