Job summary

The Alaska Department of Fish & Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries, seeks a Fishery Biologist 1 in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. You will support the Crab Observer Program by briefing/debriefing observers, reviewing data for accuracy, and entering data in our databases.

A bachelor's degree in biology or related field is required, with substitution options described in the posting. Travel, at-sea work, and irregular hours are expected. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, fisheries science, or natural resource management.
• Substitution allows biology credit hours and chemistry/physics/math/GIS coursework for degree requirements.

Responsibilities

• Brief and debrief fishery observers and ensure data accuracy.
• Enter and edit observer data in multiple database systems.
• Assist in observer training and field deployment logistics.
• Communicate with fishermen, processors, industry, and agencies about regulations.
