The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is hiring a Fish Screening, Passage and Restoration Coordinator (Natural Resource Specialist 2) for a full-time, permanent position in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

The role focuses on serving as a liaison among the fish screening program, passage program, and Habitat Division, while providing technical assistance to irrigation districts and conservation groups in the Klamath Basin.

Qualifications

  • Six years of biological experience in a fish or wildlife program with data gathering, analysis or reporting.
  • Two years of biological experience with a Bachelor’s in Fisheries/Wildlife plus two of data gathering, analysis or reporting, and a relevant degree.
  • One year of biological experience with a Master’s in Fisheries/Wildlife and two of data gathering, analysis or reporting, or a related Master’s.
  • Doctorate in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or related field required or preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between project proponents, fish screening and habitat programs and the Habitat Division.
  • Provide technical assistance to irrigation districts, water users, watershed councils and conservation groups in the Klamath Basin.
  • Collect, analyze and evaluate data for fish screening, passage and habitat restoration projects and coordinate related activities.
  • Participate in a range of fish, wildlife and habitat activities within the Klamath Basin.

Job description

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations.

We are hiring for one full-time, permanent position located in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

What you will do:
  • The role is a critical liaison between project proponents, the fish screening program, fish passage program and Habitat Division.
  • You will be responsible for outreach and providing technical assistance to irrigation districts, water users, watershed councils and conservation groups in the Klamath Basin.
  • Additionally, you will perform data collection, analysis, and evaluation for potential fish screening and passage projects and associated habitat restoration projects, as well as project coordination.
  • You will be part of the Klamath Watershed District and have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of other fish, wildlife, and habitat related activities throughout the Klamath Basin.
  • This position will also require the successful candidate to either possess or obtain an All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Education card and a Boater Education Card within the first 6 months of hire.

What we are looking for:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Option 1: Six years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included one year of at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports
  • Option 2: Two years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included one year of at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, AND a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Bachelor’s degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework
  • Option 3: One year biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, AND a Master's degree Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Master’s degree in biological/ecological sciences
  • Option 4: A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences.
Desired Attributes:
  • Proven experience collaborating with other entities which may include: Tribes, watershed councils, non-governmental organizations, water users, and private landowners to advance fish and/or wildlife habitat projects.
  • Experience in providing technical expertise for fish, wildlife, or habitat related projects.
  • Experience implementing aquatic or riparian restoration projects.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain successful interagency, Tribal, and non-governmental partnerships.
  • Excellent public speaking, writing, and outreach abilities.
  • Ability to use persuasive diplomacy while working with landowners, partner agencies, and the public.
  • Experience with fish passage and screening technology and solutions.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
