Qualifications

  • Aquaculture knowledge including growing and maintaining fish.
  • Hatchery operations, regulations for distribution of fish in State waters.
  • Knowledge of fish culture operations and techniques.
  • Maintaining and documenting hatchery activities.
  • Knowledge of cold/warm/anadromous species including trout and Atlantic salmon.
  • Knowledge of state motor vehicle laws.
  • Ability to follow directions, procedures, and schedules.
  • Ability to operate heavy motorized equipment and perform basic repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in culture, maintenance and distribution of hatchery fish across seasons.
  • Spawn and monitor development of eggs and fry; manage feeding schedules for growth.
  • Assist in netting, sorting, weighing, egg handling, sampling, inspecting, and hatching processes.
  • Stock fish and track hatchery inventory across species.
  • Maintain records and contribute to hatchery reports and activities documentation.
  • Perform semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and facility upkeep at hatchery buildings.
  • Maintain fish rearing structures and grounds and assist with related tasks.
  • Support outreach programs and tours to educate the public.
