Job summary

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) invites applications for a Fish Hatchery Specialist 2 (In-Training) at the Washougal Hatchery in Skamania County. This full‑time position starts as an FHS1/FHS2 with a 12‑month in‑training plan leading to a FHS2 promotion.

The role includes fish culture duties, record keeping, maintenance of hatchery facilities, and public outreach tours. Housing is provided, and a Class B CDL must be obtained within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Qualification includes either an Associate’s degree in fisheries technology/biology or equivalent experience.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License; obtain Class B CDL within six months of hire.
• In-training pathway from FHS1 to FHS2 with a 12‑month plan.

Responsibilities

• Feed and monitor fish according to pond populations and weight samples.
• Monitor health, growth, and egg/fish production; disinfect and sample eggs.
• Maintain water quality and record keeping; assist in data entry and reporting.
