Job description

Position Summary

The Fiscal Analyst/Accountant performs professional duties by maintaining accurate and timely financial records for the College. This position performs key accounting functions including bank and investment reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis, grant accounting, and cash management. The role also supports financial reporting and assists with audits to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. Supports other roles in fiscal services. A high degree of decision-making and independent judgment with matters of significance is expected in this role to help the institution make smart business decisions.

Salary Schedule: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule C3-2 $54,515 -$89,060 based on experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reconcile all bank accounts to ensure accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Reconcile investment accounts and record related activity.
  • Prepare and post journal entries as required.
  • Analyze balance sheet accounts and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Record, analyze, and bill for various grants in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Analyze daily cash activity and assist with cash management projections.
  • Assist in the preparation of the College’s financial statements, balance sheets and income statements.
  • Provide support to the College’s auditors during audits.
  • Serve as backup support to other roles as assigned.
  • Assist federal, state, and local auditors by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Monitor and analyze assigned financial accounts.
  • Conduct cost-benefit studies for new projects or programs.
  • Ensure financial records follow laws, ACCS, and Lawson State policies and rules, such as GAAP.
  • Perform related duties as required to support departmental and institutional operations.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments within the fiscal and accounting field and make recommendations to the CFO.
  • Prepare standard and specialized reports through operational analysis of data from College systems, sub-systems, and procedures; provide information to management by assembling and summarizing data, preparing reports, and presenting findings, analyses, and recommendations.
  • Serve on College and System-wide committees as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Lawson State Community College.
  • Represent the College professionally in responding to ACCS System Office employees, business and education executives, auditors, college personnel, students, and the public.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Accounting or related.
  • Three (3) years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, theories, and terminology of accounting, auditing, banking, budgeting, and financial management.
  • Knowledge of financial statement analysis with the ability to interpret and analyze financial data, records, and reports.

Physical Requirements
  • General office environment with the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
