Job summary

Wysocki Family Farms in Wisconsin is seeking a Processing Grader to maintain potato quality by grading and sorting on the conveyor, removing foreign materials, and ensuring compliance with contract specs.

You will work in a fast-paced team, communicate with management about grade issues, and follow GMP and safety rules, wearing PPE and keeping work area clean.

This role emphasizes accuracy, teamwork, and adherence to production schedules.

Qualifications

  • Preferred experience in produce, preferably in potatoes or a manufacturing setting.
  • Preferred experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred knowledge of potato inspection process preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Grades and sorts potatoes moving on the conveyor system according to color, size, weight, and applicable customer specifications.
  • Removes foreign materials including corn stalks, rocks, and rotting potatoes while being conveyed to/from trucks.
  • Communicates to management when the grade of potatoes are not meeting the customer order requirements as directed.
  • Cleans general work area of debris, excess potatoes or other materials out of place.
  • Follows all Safety/Occupational Safety, and Food Safety policies as outlined in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) at Wysocki.

Job description

TheGrader is accountable for maintaining the quality of potatoes shipped to the customer by grading and sorting potatoes moving rapidly on the conveyor system. Grading consists of removing all foreign materials which includes but not limited to corn stalks, rocks, and rotting potatoes while being conveyed to and from trucks. Potatoes are sorted according to color, size, weight, and condition according to contract and customer specifications.

Examples of these are: Ensuring no plastic bottles are near the production area, no loose jewelry, nothing is in the mouth such as gum, cough drops and hair is tied back
  • Participates in team meetings as scheduled and is an active participant in the Lead Safe Program.
  • Collaborates with the production team to ensure timely processing and distribution of graded potatoes.
  • Completes training as assigned by the supervisor or company.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support departmental and company goals, adapting to business needs with flexibility and teamwork.

  • (Processing Grader only) Conducts a monthly inspection of the facility traps to ensure proper maintenance and functionality.
  • (Process Grader only) Assists the Process Loader with daily cleaning tasks in the process bay and the surrounding floor area.
Physical Activities/Demands

This position is primarily sedentary and stationary work that can alternate standing/sitting. This position requires the ability to: ascend/descend various types of ladders and stairs; move oneself into different positions in various environments (sometimes tight); occasionally lift up to 20 pounds; communicate with others via voice, listening, and verbal response; repeat motions with the arms, wrists, hands and fingers; bend and stoop; visually see and identify defects (color, variety, length, width, appearance); mentally process needed action and remove deficient product by reaching/grabbing from the line. Stand on concrete for long periods of time.

Environmental Conditions

Physical activities are performed in temperature controlled indoor environments which could include noisy environments; slippery and wet floor conditions, exposure to regulated chemicals; dusty or poorly ventilated environments.
