The First Assistant Engineer at CSU Maritime Academy in Vallejo, CA works under the Chief Engineer to maintain and repair training ship engineering systems and spaces, and to assist in supervising staff, students, and student workers.
Required are a USCG First Assistant Engineer or Chief Engineer license, STCW endorsement, and a bachelor’s degree in marine or mechanical engineering, with strong communication and time management skills to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer, the First Assistant Engineer is responsible for maintenance, repair and upkeep of the training ship engineering equipment and spaces, and assisting in supervision of the training ship staff, students, and student workers.
