Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista, AZ, is hiring a Certified First Assistant (First Assist) for a full-time, days schedule in our Perioperative Services Department. You will support a range of surgical specialties and work as part of a collaborative team dedicated to high‑quality, patient‑centered care.

Qualified candidates must complete a First Assist program, hold a CSFA with NBSTSA, have a BLS certificate, and demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to operate with minimal

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) with NBSTSA required.
• BLS Certificate required.
• Needs critical thinking, decisive judgement and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Direct assistance to the surgeon during procedures.
• Position patient for exposure and safety during surgery.
• Visualize operative site; tissue manipulation, retraction, suction and irrigation.
• Achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
• Assist with wound closure and drainage systems.

Canyon Vista Medical Center is a 106 bed acute care hospital that strives to offer exceptional care to the Sierra Vista community. Our Perioperative Services Department provides the majority of surgical care for Cochise County, supporting a wide range of specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, urology, gynecology, podiatry, spine, vascular, and endoscopy. How You\'ll Contribute

A Certified First Assistant (First Assist) who excels in this role:

• Provides direct assistance to the surgeon(s) during surgical procedures.
• Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.
• Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
• Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.
• Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.

What We\'re Looking For

• Must have completed a First Assist program
• Highschool Diploma or Equivalent required; Associates Degree preferred
• Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) with the Nation Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting required
• BLS Certificate required
• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.
