Job summary

Field Medical, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Firmware Engineer to join our team. You will help advance the FieldForce Ablation System, a Class III electrosurgical device, through firmware development for regulated environments.

You will develop firmware primarily in C (with some C++) for STM32 microcontrollers, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and prototypes. This role emphasizes thorough testing and documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of firmware development experience.
• Proficiency in C and/C++
• Experience with STM32 microcontrollers
• Experience in medical devices or highly regulated environments
• MATLAB-to-C/C++ translation experience without Simulink
• Automated testing experience is desirable
• Knowledge of Linux and Python is a plus
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Experience with electrophysiology is preferred

Founded in 2022, Field Medical Inc. is a medical device company advancing next-generation pulsed field ablation (PFA) technologies for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.

Field Medical's flagship innovation, the FieldForce™ Ablation System, is the first contact force focal PFA catheter system designed specifically for ventricular use. By delivering brief, high-intensity electric fields to target cardiac tissue without thermal damage, the system represents a novel approach to treating some of the most challenging arrhythmias. About the Role:

At Field Medical, we are seeking a highly skilled Firmware Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developing firmware for highly regulated environments such as medical devices. This role will primarily focus on new feature development and the second generation of our Class III electrosurgical device.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

• Develop and maintain firmware for electrosurgical medical devices.
• Utilize tools and environments provided with microcontrollers, specifically STM32 and potentially TI microprocessors.
• Develop firmware primarily in C, with occasional use of C++
• Engage in the development of medical device firmware, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• Conduct unit and system testing of firmware.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop requirements and prototypes.
• Write and maintain procedures and documentation related to firmware development.
• Build strong working relationships across all functional areas, fostering a collaborative culture that drives the company's mission forward

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in firmware development.
• Proficiency in C and C++
• Familiarity with microcontroller tools and environments, especially STM32.
• Experience in developing firmware for medical devices or other highly regulated environments.
• Experience in manually translating MATLAB code to C or C++ without using automated tools like Simulink.
• Experience with automated testing is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Linux and Python is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Electrophysiology is preferred
