Job summary

Corning Incorporated seeks an Electrical Controls Engineer to design, program, test, and debug automated process machines in the Painted Post facility. You will focus on production assets, ensuring robust controls and safe operation.

You will join a cross-functional team to implement new functionality and improvements across PLC/SCADA, DCS, HMIs, and robotics, while aligning with safety and quality standards in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field.
  • 1+ years of engineering experience; 3+ years preferred in controls solutions for manufacturing.
  • Experience with machine/motion control systems, flexible automation, and electro-mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of control-system design, open/closed-loop systems, and NFPA/NISO standards.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Electrical Controls expert for development and troubleshooting of production equipment in the Firing area of the Diesel Manufacturing facility in Painted Post, NY.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance to implement new functionality across safety controllers, PLCs/PACs, DCS, HMIs, robots, motion systems, and MES/data collection.
  • Adhere to plant/electrical controls standards and address technical questions; manage changes during off-shift as needed.
  • Execute assignments in a team-based environment with clear communication of benefits/risks to Operations and Leadership.

Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope Of Position

The primary focus of this role is to improve controls systems and provide support for production assets. Responsibilities include designing, building, programming, testing, and debugging automated process machines within the facility, including kilns and material handling systems.

Role In The Team

You will be a member of a cross-functional controls engineering team tasked with supporting and enhancing functionality for advanced manufacturing process systems. This role emphasizes safety and quality improvements.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Act as the Electrical Controls expert for development and troubleshooting of production equipment in the Firing area of the Diesel Manufacturing facility in Painted Post, NY.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to implement new functionality based on production needs. Support includes, but is not limited to: Safety controllers, PLCs/PACs, DCS systems, HMIs, robots, motion control systems, measurement systems, instrumentation, material handling systems, industrial networks, and MES/data collection systems.
  • Adhere to plant and division electrical controls standards, addressing technical questions and managing changes during off-shift activities as needed.
  • Execute assignments in a team-based environment with minimal supervision. Effectively communicate benefits and risks of engineered solutions to Operations and Leadership.
Work Hours/Schedule
  • Typical working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM.
  • Flexibility may be required to meet plant production objectives.
  • Occasional off-shift support may be needed for emergencies to maintain critical asset operations.
Education

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent field.
Experience
  • 1+ years of engineering experience required, 3+ years experience preferred with a proven track record in designing, developing, and implementing robust, state-of-the-art controls solutions using machine/motion control systems, flexible automation, and electro-mechanical systems in manufacturing environments.

  • Familiarity with cutting-edge technologies such as: Control system integration and architectures, PLCs/PACs, Motion control systems, Electro-mechanical drive systems, Part sensing and vision systems, Risk assessment and safety systems.

  • Ability to work effectively in both team and independent settings.
  • General mechanical knowledge and its application in troubleshooting and system design.
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, and customer-focused with a commitment to excellence.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in electrical design practices, machine/motion control systems, programming, and system integration.
  • Knowledge of control systems design, including open-loop and closed-loop systems.
  • Experience with Rockwell Logix5000/Studio5000, Honeywell Experion
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLC/PAC, robotic systems, motion control, VFD, and safety hardware.
  • Knowledge of computer science hardware/software.
  • Experience with vision inspection systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as NFPA70, NFPA79, NFPA70E, NFPA86, ISO13949, and ANSI1506.

The range for this position is $88,834.00 - $122,148.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
