Job summary

The SFMD is seeking to establish a hiring list for the Recruit Firefighter position. Personnel work a 56-hour week on a 48/96 schedule with potential shifts to 40 hours. The ideal candidate can handle physically demanding firefighting duties, strong teamwork, and public service with diverse populations.

Applicants must be 18+, have a HS diploma or GED, hold EMT or Paramedic certification, and maintain a valid license. CPAT must be uploaded at application time.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
• Certification as EMT or Paramedic required and valid at start.
• CPAT dated after 10/31/2025 must be uploaded at time of application.

Responsibilities

• Respond to alarms and participate in preventing and extinguishing fires.
• Respond to medical incidents and render emergency and non-emergency care.
• Engage in fire code enforcement, public education, station, apparatus, and equipment maintenance.
• Perform related work and mitigate technical rescue and hazardous materials incidents.
