Job Description: Firefighter/EMT

Under general supervision, performs emergency response work including firefighting, rescue, and hazardous material containment. Responsibilities include operating firefighting equipment, conducting inspections, and maintaining station facilities. Reports to a Fire Lieutenant or Captain.

Essential functions include responding to emergencies, operating equipment, performing rescue and medical procedures, maintaining apparatus, participating in training, and record-keeping. Must meet all minimum qualifications and hold necessary certifications, including Firefighter II and Intermediate EMT, with a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED, with completion of an approved Firefighter Recruit Academy.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Certifications: Firefighter II, Intermediate EMT, HAZMAT operations, EVOC, Driver/Pump Operations, Technical Rescue Module II or equivalent.
• Eligibility to operate in the Tidewater EMS region.
