Job summary

Santa Fe County Fire Department is seeking a Cadet for its Fire Academy program to train, educate, and be evaluated as an entry level firefighter and EMT-Basic. The role includes rigorous class schedules, in-the-field assignments, and instruction in fire suppression, hazardous materials handling, and emergency medical basics.

Cadets must pass physical agility tests, complete Fire Academy requirements, and obtain Firefighter II certification, while adhering to departmental policies and safety

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must be 18 years of age at the start of the academy.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate well.
• Capable of basic math and quick decision making under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the Fire Academy training and complete all required courses.
• Develop qualifications for Firefighter/EMT under supervision.
• Maintain safety, physical fitness, and readiness for certification as Firefighter II.
