City of Farmington Fire Department seeks to fill a full-time firefighter position. The role involves firefighting, emergency medical response, community safety education, and equipment maintenance across rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.

The employee must meet initial medical requirements as outlined in NMAC Reg. 11.5.2.10 C (4), and maintain annual medical requirements outlined in NMAC Reg. 11.5.2.10 C (5) and (6).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, heated environment, cold environment, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, except during certain firefighting or EMT activities when noise levels may be loud.
This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes, pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
Be 18 years or older at the time of employment.
Possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years. Must be able to obtain a driver's license applicable to Fire Department apparatus.
Must pass annual physical assessment arduous level per NWCG guidelines.
Be able to read and write the English language.
Have a working knowledge of driver safety.
Have the ability to complete the Farmington Fire Department recruit academy which will include local customs and jurisdictional practices including firefighter I and firefighter II information and skills. Also will receive instruction through the live fire evolutions included in the fire lab portion of the recruit training academy. The candidate must successfully complete all classes with honors and earn all necessary certifications during the academy prior to assignment on shift.
Have the ability to perform strenuous or peak physical effort during emergencies, trainings or station activities/trainings for prolonged periods of time under conditions of extreme heights, intense heat, cold or smoke.
Have the ability to act effectively during emergencies and stressful situations.
Have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Have the ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the general public.
Have the ability to obtain New Mexico Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) certification within the first year of employment.
Preference points will be awarded to candidates based on the highest level of formal education completed (0.5 point for an Associate's Degree, 1 point for a Bachelor's Degree, and 1.5 points for a Master's Degree or higher; based on a 100 point grading scale).
Military preference point will be awarded to candidates based on submission of a qualifying DD214 and or proof of current active reserve duty status (1 point, based on a 100 point grading scale).
Preference points will be awarded to candidates based on current EMT licensure (0.5 point, based on a 100 point grading scale).
Preference points will be awarded to those who are currently employed with Farmington Fire Department at the time of the hiring process - proof of employment must be submitted for verification (0.5 point, based on a 100 point grading scale).
Preference points will be awarded to those living within 30 miles of City of Farmington City Hall at time of the hiring process - proof of residency must be submitted for verification (0.5 point, based on a 100 point grading scale).
Preference points will be calculated and awarded after the candidate has successfully completed the Firefighter entrance exam, physical assessment and interview panel(s).
