City of Auburn, AL is seeking a Firefighter to perform emergency and non-emergency duties in support of the Fire Department. The role reports to the Fire Sergeant and requires responding to calls, operating and maintaining equipment, and participating in fire prevention activities.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and knowledge of firefighting techniques. This is a full-time position with a strong emphasis on teamwork and community safety.

This position is responsible for performing emergency and non-emergency duties in support of the department’s fire prevention and fire suppression activities. This position reports to the Fire Sergeant.

High school diploma or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The work is heavy to very heavy work, which requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently walking, sitting, standing, crouching, climbing, bending, or crawling, or stooping. The employee uses tools or equipment, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
The work is typically performed in a fire station and various outdoor environments. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, cold or inclement weather, and conditions associated with emergency and fire scenes. The employee is also periodically exposed to extreme environments such as burning buildings. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc., as well as other specialized firefighting equipment.
A requirement of this job is a mandatory orientation which will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 2:00 PM and Friday, August 28, 2026 at 9:00 AM Central Time at 359 E Magnolia Avenue.
