Job summary

The Denver District Attorney's Office is hiring a Firearms Relinquishment Criminal Investigator to handle case investigations, interview victims and witnesses, and coordinate with law enforcement. This role requires POST certification and a valid driver's license, with duties spanning evidence handling, affidavits, and inter-unit collaboration.

On-site work at Republic Plaza, Denver, Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
• Four years of police experience, two at Detective level or equivalent.
• Driver's License and POST certification required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct proper investigations and interview complainants, victims, and witnesses.

Location

This position reports on site at the Republic Plaza building located at 370 17th St, Denver, CO 80202, Monday through Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM.

What You'll Do

As a Firearms Relinquishment Criminal Investigator you will be responsible for proper case investigations, interview complainants, victims and witnesses as well as periodically consult with complainants and victims regarding the progress of cases until they have been officially closed. Through investigative procedures, investigators will direct their best efforts in the prevention and suppression of crime, and in the detection and apprehension of criminal suspects.

Additional Firearms Relinquishment Criminal Investigator duties include:

• Reviews all new domestic violence cases filed by Denver Police, including all reports and witness statements, as well as all relevant criminal justice and social media databases, in order to determine if there are firearms in the home and/or in the control of the charged suspect(s)
• Documents all information relating to firearms in the DA internal database
• Determines investigative techniques and case strategies; gathers, evaluates, and preserves evidence, analyzes the evidence, prepares spreadsheets or summary charts on financial or voluminous data, and determine the presence or absence of criminal activity
• Prepares affidavits for arrest warrant, search warrants, and subpoenas, serves parties involved in legal action, and may prepare interrogatories, production requests, and answers in civil litigation
• Provide reasonably requested information and assistance to other units within the Office of the District Attorney and maintain an efficient level of cooperation and coordination in affected areas. Assist and maintain close cooperation and positive working relationships with other law enforcement agencies
• Other duties as assigned

This position requires certification as a Colorado Peace Officer (POST) at the time of application, and requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Please do not apply if you do not possess these certifications.

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of professional level experience conducting comprehensive investigations of complex criminal and civil cases
• POST certified and familiarity with drafting arrest/search warrants
• Familiarity with criminal justice databases
• Familiarity with the use of social media databases
• Background in investigating cases involving family violence with a particular emphasisonthei
• Bilingual in another foreign language strongly preferred

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
• Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of previous police experience, two (2) of which must be at the level of Criminal Investigator (e.g. Police Detective) or any equivalent combination of education and experience
• Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
• Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
• License/Certifications: A valid Driver's License at the time of application. Requires a certification as a Colorado Peace Officer (POST)
