Job summary

Seattle City Attorney’s Office seeks a Firearm Supervisor to develop policies, procedures, and trainings for best practices related to firearms in Seattle Municipal Court, King County courts, and regional enforcement teams.

The role focuses on support for ERPO filings, court appearances, caseload management, and leadership of firearm staff, with on-call duties and collaboration across jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Active membership in the Washington State Bar Association or ability to obtain membership within 30 days.
• Extensive criminal prosecution experience, including firearms and domestic violence prosecutions.
• Experience advising law enforcement on legal matters and working with victims.
• Ability to manage caseloads, supervise staff, and provide training to prosecutors and attorneys.
• Strong analytical skills to assess risk, dangers, and triage cases for appropriate handling.

Responsibilities

• Develop procedures to reduce gun violence and increase victim and community safety through regional collaboration and proactive enforcement of firearms laws;
• Support law enforcement and family/household members in filing Extreme Risk Protection Orders;
• Appear in King County Superior Court and King County District Court for ERPO hearings;
• Manage a caseload of ERPO cases;
• Develop trainings for attorneys and law enforcement;
• Supervise firearm unit staff and provide back-up for the Firearm Prosecutor;
• Be on-call for legal assistance and emergency requests 24 hours a day;
• Advise partners with minimal supervision;
• Work with intense and sensitive cases;
• Participate in weekly case staffing and legislative planning;
• Assist in policy formulation and enforcement within the Regional Unit;
• Collaborate on cross-jurisdictional strategy with Unit Co-Chair;
• Perform other duties as assigned.
