Note: This description reflects a role with responsibilities in fire alarm systems installation, maintenance, and customer support, with travel within Pennsylvania and occasional overnight trips.
Responsibilities
- Perform on-site service, installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on fire alarm systems (e.g., Siemens, Silent Knight, VESDA, Simplex, Notifier).
- Test fire system operations to satisfy code requirements.
- Complete thorough and timely documentation of all activities (service reports, expense reports, quality alerts, maintenance reports).
- Read and interpret engineered site drawings, manufacturer manuals, and operation matrices.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Contribute to the success of the Fire Life Safety Division as needed.
Location & Travel
- Ideally located in Central, Eastern, or Southern Pennsylvania near Reading, York, or State College; daily office commute not required.
- Daily travel to customer sites primarily throughout Pennsylvania, with occasional overnight travel.
- Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record to operate a company vehicle.
What You Bring
- Strong technical knowledge with an electronics background and a solid foundation in fire alarm systems.
- Ability to commission and modify basic fire alarm systems (adding/deleting hardware, detectors, stations, modules, notification appliances).
- Experience using multimeter, lineman’s test set, and basic electronic theory.
- Solid customer service and communication skills; excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- At least one year of experience with fire alarm system installations.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics or related field.
- Industry certifications such as NICET and formal manufacturer training are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Physical ability to ascend/descend ladders and access elevated areas; ability to stand for long periods; frequent bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching.
- Hand dexterity to manipulate materials; able to lift up to 50 pounds (assistance or mechanical aid for heavier lifts).
- Ability to move safely within tight spaces, crawl spaces, attics, and other installation areas.
- Vision: 20/40 in at least one eye, or 20/70 with corrective lenses; color distinction ability.
