Thompson Safety in Houston, TX is seeking a Fire Inspector/Technician responsible for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of fire protection systems. You will inspect, test, and perform system checks, and prepare accurate inspection reports.

Responsibilities include completing detailed reports, responding to emergency calls on an on-call schedule, and communicating with customers professionally while maintaining company equipment and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certifications/licensing on specific fire protection systems preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of codes/regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work independently or in a team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings/weekends and on-call shifts; valid driver’s license and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance, service, repairs and inspections on fire protection systems.
  • Complete detailed inspection reports and document issues accurately and timely.
  • Respond to emergency calls and participate in on-call schedule.
  • Interact with customers professionally and preserve company equipment.
  • Maintain safety by using PPE and operating company vehicles responsibly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance, service, repairs and inspections on various fire protection systems.
  • Complete detailed inspection reports, documenting any issues and report results of work completed in an accurate, timely manner.
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls and participate in an on call schedule.
  • Interact with customers in a mature and professional manner.
  • Protect and maintain company equipment.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times by utilizing personal protective equipment in appropriate situations, operate a company motor vehicle in a manner free of accidents and citations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned .
Experience & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required . Certifications/licensing on specific fire protection systems preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of codes and regulations for the work being performed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling requirements that could require working evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to operate a mobile device/computer to complete work orders, inspections reports, emails, etc...
  • Maintain a v alid driver's license and ability to pass a drug and background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and have full use of hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to safely wor k from a ladder, and in some case, a man-lift.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
