Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking Inspectors to conduct routine inspections, testing, and maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines. The role requires physical labor, climbing, and travel as needed.

You will document deficiencies, maintain schedules, and support installation activities under supervision. The position emphasizes safety, quality inspections, and professional representation of Johnson Controls in client sites.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Ability to obtain and retain any licenses required by National, State and Local codes.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and manuals.
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying/moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet.
  • Willing to travel out of town and work flexible hours including on-call, nights, weekends.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service and safety adherence.
  • Enrolled in Grinnell's approved Apprenticeship Program.

Responsibilities

  • Meet customer expectations while performing quality inspections.
  • Discern and document deficiencies found during an inspection.
  • Represent the company professionally at all times.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgement/inspections with proper coding via devices or hardcopy.
  • Maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.
  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.
  • Complete assigned inspections on time.
  • Carry/move equipment and tools up to 70 lbs.
  • Assist foreman in installation of sprinkler systems.
  • Work in positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment.
  • Be enrolled in the Apprenticeship Program and maintain requirements.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and quick learning ability.

Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines.

How you will do it
  • Responsible for meeting customer expectations while performing quality inspections

  • Accurately discern and document deficiencies found during an inspection

  • Professionallyrepresent the company at all times

  • Complete Service Acknowledgement/inspections with proper coding through communicating devices, such as laptop computers, smartphones, and/or hardcopy

  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule

  • Make minor repairs and programming changes tosystemsbeing inspected.

  • Complete assigned inspections on time

  • Perform other duties as directed

  • Carry/move equipment and tools weighing up to 70lbs and be capable of performing physical labor

  • Assist foreman in the installation of wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge sprinkler systems

  • Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment

  • Be enrolled in Grinnell's approved Apprenticeship Program, maintaining all requirements of the Apprenticeship Standards

  • Have a positive attitude and the ability to learn quickly

What we look for

  • Ability to work flexible hours including on-call rotation, nights, and weekends to meet customer requirements.

  • Willingto travel out of town.

  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.

  • Ability to adhere to, implement, andfollow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.

  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, andan abilityto learn quickly.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $34.00 - 39.00 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
