Job summary

The Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of State Fire Marshal Fire Service Training Bureau, is seeking a Fire Service Technical Assistant. The role supports education, training, certification, and consultation for Iowa's fire service and emergency responders, with travel across the state and possible nights/weekends.

Key duties include design and maintenance of training props, coordination of prop delivery, vehicle and equipment upkeep, and support for training facilities while ensuring

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time work experience in fire service training or related field.
• Ability to design, maintain, and repair training props and equipment.
• Familiarity with safety standards and OSHA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate delivery and retrieval of mobile training props across Iowa.
• Design, construct, and maintain fixed and mobile training props and equipment.
• Schedule and perform routine maintenance for fleet vehicles, trailers, and props.
• Maintain PPE, SCBA, extinguishers, pumps, and training equipment per NFPA standards.
• Develop inventories for props, tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Keep shop and lab spaces organized per OSHA standards.
• Assist with facility upkeep and classroom preparation to ensure safety and professionalism.
• Develop and update policies for maintenance and operation of props and equipment.
