McHenry County College seeks anAdjunct Fire Science instructor to teach entry‑level and advanced topics. You will deliver lectures, labs, and fieldrelated content, supporting students in a variety of fire service subjects such as behavior, tactics, water supply, and ventilation.

You will develop syllabi, track attendance and grades, and participate in department initiatives. The position requires flexibility, strong communication, and a commitment to student success within a community college

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related field with 2,000 hours of work experience.
  • Associate degree in Fire Science or EMS with 2,000 hours of work exp.
  • OSFM Instructor I certification or EMT licensing with 2,000 hours experience.
  • ProBoard or IFSAC certification with 2,000 hours of related work experience.
  • Five years of Fire Service experience and teaching experience.
  • Proficiency using Canvas or similar LMS.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses as assigned by the College.
  • Available to teach daytime, evening, or weekend classes as needed.
  • Hold student conferences before/after class or via email.
  • Develop syllabus using MCC template.
  • Collaborate within department and across College for excellence.
  • Regularly assess student learning and outcomes.
  • Submit attendance records weekly and grades on time.
  • Utilize diverse teaching styles to match learning styles.
  • Use computer-based instruction and databases when needed.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related field
2,000 hours of related work experience
AA/AS in Fire Science or EMS + 2,000 hours experience

Five years Fire Service experience
Experience teaching Fire Service courses
Willingness to use Canvas and ed tech
