Job Responsibilities
  • Respond to fire emergencies, rescues, hazardous material incidents, and medical calls on a military installation under supervision.
  • Perform 24-hour standby for fire suppression and rescue operations in stressful and dangerous conditions.
  • Operate fire apparatus and related equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles, tools, protective clothing, and equipment.
  • Participate in training and evaluation exercises as required.
  • Provide medical assistance at EMR level or higher.
  • Assume command of the emergency scene in the absence of a Senior Fire Officer until relieved.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by fire authorities.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • High school diploma.
  • Firefighter I/II training certifications (IFSAC or ProBoard).
  • Pump Operations I and Emergency Vehicle Driver’s Training (EVDT) certifications.
  • Must meet NFPA-1582 physical standards.
  • General knowledge of firefighting practices.
Additional Comments
  • Applicants must hold a valid South Carolina driver’s license or obtain one within 45 days of employment if holding an out-of-state license.
  • Certification at the Firefighter II skill level from a federal or state fire training school is required.
  • Basic knowledge of fire apparatus operations, driving skills, and compliance with NFPA 1002 standards within six months of employment.
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials Operations and First-Aid techniques.
  • Broad knowledge of structural firefighting and rescue techniques.
  • Understanding of Fire Prevention procedures and practices.
  • Ability to perform duties, lift 100 lbs, and work in various conditions.
  • Employment contingent on passing a Firefighter Physical exam, Drug Test, and Background Check. May require a “Secret” level National Security Clearance.
  • Work schedule involves 24/7 emergency services with three 7-person shifts, 24 hours on/off, averaging 53 hours/week.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals.
