Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Life Safety Systems Engineer to design code-compliant fire protection solutions for cutting-edge facilities, including semiconductors, data centers, and research centers. You’ll interface with clients and officials, deliver 3D BIM models, and guide project teams as Engineer of Record.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, 4+ years in safety system design, and knowledge of NFPA and NEC standards. A PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and at least 4 years in Safety System Design.
  • Knowledge of NFPA codes and IBC.
  • Experience with Fire Alarm and VESDA systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Ability to interface with clients and local code officials.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver code-compliant fire and life safety solutions for facilities such as semiconductors, data centers, and research labs.
  • Take ownership as Engineer of Record and guide project teams.
  • Interface with clients and local code officials to ensure compliance and excellence.
  • Create 2D/3D BIM models using AutoCAD and Revit MEP for fire alarms, leakage and security systems.
  • Apply Life Safety & Fire codes to produce calculations, specifications and construction deliverables.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver code‑compliant fire and life safety solutions including fire sprinklers, gaseous agents, fire detection, toxic gas detection, smoke modeling, and explosion prevention.
  • Take ownership as Engineer of Record, guiding teams and collaborating with senior design professionals.
  • Interface directly with clients and local code officials to ensure compliance and excellence.
  • Use AutoCAD and Revit MEP to create 3D BIM models and design systems such as fire alarms, smoke and leak detection, security, and intrusion detection.
  • Apply Life Safety & Fire codes and industry standards to produce calculations, specifications, network diagrams, and detailed construction deliverables in both 2D and 3D formats.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience in fire protection engineering and life safety systems design.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • At least 4 years of experience with Safety System Design.
  • Knowledge of IFC, IBC, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.
  • Knowledge and application of NFPA 70 (NEC) and electrical design requirements.
  • Knowledge and application of NFPA 400 Hazardous Materials Code.
  • Knowledge of Fire Alarm Systems and manufacturers’ equipment, including VESDA systems.
  • Design experience with Fire Alarm, VESDA systems, security CCTV, HPM and Leak Detection.
  • Knowledge of design and construction specifications.
  • Experience estimating and scheduling mid‑to‑large‑scale projects.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience leading projects and managing resources.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff.
  • Design Management experience.
  • Design experience in semiconductor or data centers.
  • Working knowledge of 3D BIM software (Revit).

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $102,900.00 to $155,650.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
