Job summary

Alaska Department of Public Safety is seeking a Plan Review professional to evaluate complex construction plans for adherence to the International Building, Fire, and Mechanical codes at state facilities across Alaska.

The role requires three years of plan review or inspection experience, strong coding knowledge, and eventual ICC certifications. You will work primarily in an office setting with site visits as needed, and may advance toward leadership within the Plan Review Bureau.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience reviewing construction plans and specifications or performing building inspections for compliance with codes.
• Ability to interpret federal, state, and local codes including building, fire and mechanical standards.
• Continued employment requires ICC certification within specified time frames (6–18 months).
• Valid Alaska driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve complex plans for compliance with International Building, Fire, Mechanical, and Fuel Gas Codes.
• Advise State Fire Marshal on technical code interpretations and safety matters.
• Draft regulations and procedures to improve plan reviews and inspections.
• Serve as an advisor to ensure life safety in state buildings.
