Job description

Total Safety is looking for a Fire Pump Technician to join their safety conscious team.

The Fire Pump Technician provides service inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair for fire equipment, including portable and semi-portable fire extinguishers, lifesaving equipment, fire and gas detection systems, foam systems, dry chemical systems, navigational aids, gaseous suppression systems, and sprinkler systems.

Essential Duties
  • Performs shop service and/or field inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire equipment, which may include customer portable and fixed fire extinguisher systems and components, lifesaving and navigation aid equipment, fixed breathing air systems, fire detection and alarm system components, fixed gas detection systems components and foam, dry chemical, gaseous fire suppression systems and components, and water-based fire protection equipment.
  • Completes all documentation associated with inspection and repair in a timely and accurate manner and obtains signature from customer for proper invoicing and documentation.
  • Conducts detailed visual inspections and system functional tests to report deficiencies and provide corrective action recommendations.
  • Conducts pre-job, job update, and post job completion briefs.
  • Assists others in facilities: stocking shelves with clean, tested, and ready‑to‑use equipment; pulling, staging, and loading customer orders onto trucks for delivery.
  • Maintains work area and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicle and/or trailer.
  • Operates electronic safety and communications systems including portable gas monitors, hand‑held radios, and related equipment.
  • Trained, authorized, and certified to work both onshore and offshore exploration and production.
  • Assists others as needed.
Skills and Experience
  • 5–10 years in the petro‑chem fire protection industry.
  • Must have RME‑I Fire Sprinkler license.
  • 2–3 years fire pump experience.
  • Willing to travel 50% of the year.
  • Willing to work overtime.
  • Basic understanding of troubleshooting fire protection systems.
  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence and proof of vehicle insurance; safe driving record; insurable for Total Safety vehicle insurance while driving company truck.
  • Must obtain TWIC card and pass required safety testing (classes such as Basic Plus, OSHA 10 hour, etc.).
  • Must have Texas State Fire Licenses (FAL/FEL) and pass NICET Level II testing within 12 months of hire date.
  • Ability to meet or exceed service and quality targets; independently troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems; take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
  • Knowledge of all regulatory standards pertaining to assigned responsibilities (e.g., State, OSHA, NFPA regulations).
  • Knowledge of applicable Code of Federal Regulations, Coast Guard, and ABS regulations if offshore.
  • Basic arithmetic proficiency in all units of measure.
  • Proficiency in caring for and using all site‑specific PPE; trained in respiratory protection and certified to wear respiratory breathing equipment.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and willingness to assume additional responsibilities.
  • Reading, writing, and comprehending English; ability to author technical reports and correspondence; second language a plus; effective public speaking preferred; frequent customer and facility personnel contact; coaching of less experienced maintenance personnel.
  • Regular standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching; using hands and speaking or hearing; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus.
Working Environment
  • Shop, indoor and outdoor industrial environments.
  • May be frequently exposed to cold, hot, wet, humid, outside weather conditions and vibration.
  • Works in customer environment.
  • May be exposed to high pressure, chemicals, and traffic.
  • Noise level usually moderate.
Educational Requirements

High School diploma or GED and at least two (2) years of field experience in fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery, or related industry.

Associate degree in science or technical area strongly preferred.
