Job summary

Western States Fire Protection Company is hiring for a Fire Protection Inspector in Bozeman, MT. This full-time role offers paid training to achieve full licensure, with initial pay listed and a clear path to higher earnings as you advance.

You’ll work from your own truck after training, inspecting fire sprinkler systems, and coordinating with the project team. Training includes funding for Montana licenses and certifications.

Responsibilities

• Produce accurate, detailed inspection reports documenting improvements and deficiencies.
• Communicate daily with Project Manager and Schedule Coordinator on status and delays.
• Document time and all task-related paperwork promptly and accurately.
• Coordinate to fully close out and turnover completed jobs for billing.

What You'll Do

Once trained and licensed, you'll work independently from your own truck, completing a scheduled list of inspections each day. Day to day, you will:

• Perform routine inspections, testing, and servicing of fire sprinkler systems and related life safety product lines across multiple manufacturers.
• Produce accurate, detailed inspection reports that clearly document improvements, deficiencies, and required follow-up.
• Communicate daily with your Project Manager and/or Schedule Coordinator on job status, requirements, and any delays.
• Document your time and all task-related paperwork promptly and accurately.
• Coordinate with the Project Manager, Schedule Coordinator, and office staff to fully close out and turn over completed jobs so they can be billed in full.

What We're Looking For

The right person is self-motivated, customer service-oriented, and communicates clearly in writing and in person. To be considered, you'll need:

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid driver's license in accordance with Company policy.
• Willingness to pass a post-offer drug test and background check.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have (but not required — we'll train you): experience in the fire protection industry and familiarity with NFPA and building/fire codes.

Certifications We Pay for You to Earn

During your paid training period, we'll cover the cost of earning:

• Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester
• Montana State License for Fire Extinguishing Systems

Our expectation is that you progress from entry level to fully licensed within one year, with a pay increase at each certification milestone.

Compensation, Travel, and Benefits

• Starting pay: $59,000–$66,500 annually (depending on location and experience), increasing with each certification achieved.
• Fully licensed range: $78,000–$88,000 annually.
• Company work truck provided once trained and licensed.
• Travel: This role supports inspections across Montana. Most work is day trips based out of Bozeman, with occasional overnight travel 2-3 nights per week during training, and 6-8 times per month once licensed. [Dinner reimbursement, lodging, mileage, are company-provided.]
