Job summary

M.C. Dean is seeking a field-based Sprinkler and Fire Protection Inspector in Tysons, VA. The role involves testing, inspecting, and documenting water-based fire protection systems per NFPA standards, with NICET certification preferred.

You will coordinate with general contractors, AHJs, and site owners to ensure quality and compliance. Requirements include a Mechanical Engineering background and the ability to work safely at heights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
  • NICET certification in Water-Based Systems required or to be obtained within specified timelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and customer service mindset.
  • Ability to work safely; physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform testing and inspection of sprinkler and water-based systems per NFPA 13/25 and local codes.
  • Prepare inspection reports, service records, and flow test documentation.
  • Survey sites for PM inspections and prepare quotations.
  • Oversee hydrostatic, flushing, and pump tests; verify acceptance testing.
  • Troubleshoot deficiencies and coordinate with GC, AHJ, and owners.
  • Create redline sprinkler drawings and as-built documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and perform testing and inspection of sprinkler, standpipe, and related water-based fire protection systems per NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and local code standards, noting existing and potential deficiencies;
  • Prepare accurate and timely inspection, service, and flow test reports;
  • Perform complete site surveys for potential PM inspections and system changes/modifications, prepare corresponding quotations;
  • Verify and oversee acceptance testing of new sprinkler installations, including hydrostatic, flushing, and trip tests;
  • Troubleshoot deficiencies in sprinkler systems, valves, fire pumps, hydrants, and backflow preventers;
  • Perform pre-testing and final inspections for assigned projects in coordination with GC, AHJ, and owners;
  • Develop and perform PITCO (Pre-Inspection Testing and Check-Out) activities for sprinkler systems prior to final acceptance;
  • Perform hydraulic calculations, main drain tests, fire pump performance checks, and water supply evaluations;
  • Create redline drawings of sprinkler layouts and riser details for as-built preparation;
  • Complete job-related documentation including Reports of Completion (ROC), Test Forms, Flow Test Records, and Deficiency Lists;
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable NFPA codes, UFC, GSA P-100, insurance, and local AHJ requirements;
  • Conduct research using NFPA standards, manufacturer installation manuals, and technical data sheets to determine material requirements, installation procedures, and system upgrades.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree (Mechanical Engineering is preferred) is required for this position with 0+ years of experience

Pay Range

USD $34.76 - USD $43.46 /Hr.
