Job summary

Atlantic Constructors, Inc. is seeking a Fire Protection Estimator to prepare complete bids for assigned projects. You will review documents, lay out fire protection systems for accurate takeoffs, and solicit subcontractor quotes.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in large fire protection construction, 1–2+ years in estimating/pre-construction, and strong MS Office skills with NFPA familiarity. Occasional travel and site visits may be required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in large fire protection construction projects.
• 1-2+ years' Estimating/Pre-Construction experience.
• Knowledge of NFPA codes: NFPA 13, 14, 20 and 24.
• Ability to lay out fire protection systems.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Review construction documents, instructions to bidders, scope of work and general conditions.
• Lay out fire protection systems to create accurate bid takeoffs.
• Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to cover all scopes of work.
• Distribute plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors/vendors via FTP/email.
• Assist in development of bid strategies and participate in pre-bid meetings/site visits.
• Review take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed work.
• Review subcontractor/vendor quotations for compliance with plans/specs.
• Develop rough draft scope of work for proposals.
• Assist in negotiating subcontracts and procurement of materials/equipment.
• Enter estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnover meetings.

Summary/Objective

The Fire Protection Estimator will be responsible for providing complete estimates for bids on projects assigned.

Essential Functions

• Review all construction documents including instructions to bidders, scope of work and general conditions
• Ability to lay out fire protection systems in order to create an accurate bid takeoff
• Solicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of work
• Distribute plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company ftp website and/or email
• Assist in development of bid strategies
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits which may result in travel time on occasions
• Review take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed work
• Review in detail subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specifications
• Develop rough draft scope of work for proposals
• Assist in negotiating subcontracts and procurement of materials and equipment
• Enter estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnover/transition meetings with the operations team
• Experience with Fire Protection industry standards, including shop fabrication
• Experience in providing budgets, estimates, construction schedules, and manpower projections
• Must be able to meet critical deadlines
• Work as part of a team and coordinate scope of work between in-house trades (Sprinkler, Sheet Metal, Electrical, etc.)
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required

• 5+ years' experience in large fire protection construction projects or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 1-2+ years' Estimating/Pre-Construction experience
• Demonstrate knowledge and efficiency in fire protection hydraulic calculation software
• General understanding of NFPA codes that relate to the Fire Protection industry. NFPA 13, 14, 20 and 24
• Understanding and capable of laying out Fire Protection systems
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Must be able to meet critical deadlines
• Must be a self-starter, able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
• Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
• Must be available to work assigned schedules

Work Environment

• Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment
• Position will require visits to construction and industrial work sites

Physical Demands

• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines. Site visits will require walking through existing buildings, industrial plants and/or on-going construction sites. This will involve stairs and at times ladders on multiple floors/levels.

Travel

• May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight)

Preferred

• AAS or BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other related discipline
• Prior military experience
