Job summary

Core States Group is seeking a Fire Protection Engineering Intern to work with experienced engineers on life safety and fire protection design projects. This 11-week internship offers exposure to layouts, code analysis, and construction documentation in a multidisciplinary environment.

You will learn through hands-on use of AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM tools while supporting project coordination, site visits, and documentation preparation, all within the Bentonville, AR office.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a junior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Interested in life safety systems and code compliance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communicator and collaborative team player.
• Eager to learn in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary AEC environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with fire alarm and fire suppression system layouts
• Support code analysis and life safety reviews
• Participate in project coordination meetings with multidisciplinary teams
• Review applicable fire and building codes
• Attend site visits and observe construction progress
• Assist with permit and construction documentation preparation

What You’ll Do

As a Fire Protection Engineering Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and project teams on projects involving life safety systems and fire protection design. Throughout this 11- week internship program, you will:

• Assist with fire alarm and fire suppression system layouts
• Support code analysis and life safety reviews
• Participate in project coordination meetings with multidisciplinary teams
• Review applicable fire and building codes
• Attend site visits and observe construction progress
• Assist with permit and construction documentation preparation
• Learn how fire protection systems integrate into architectural and MEP designs

Software & Technical Skills You’ll Learn

Interns will gain hands-on experience using industry-standard mechanical engineering software and tools, including:

• AutoCAD
• Revit
• Bluebeam Revu
• NFPA standards and code review resources
• BIM coordination tools
• Microsoft Office Suite
