Job summary

The Maryland State Police is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to apply and approve professional fire protection engineering principles to ensure compliance with fire laws and codes for new and existing buildings and processes.

Based in the Northeast Regional Office in Bel Air, MD, the position requires reviewing design documents, technical shop drawings, and providing expert guidance to architects and engineers, with travel within the state as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering or engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Two to four years of professional experience in fire protection engineering.
• Must possess or obtain a Maryland driver's license if required.

Responsibilities

• Performs detailed technical review and evaluation of construction documents for compliance with state fire laws and codes.
• Reviews fire protection system shop drawings and engineering calculations.
• Provides professional fire protection engineering guidance to architects, engineers and other design professionals.
• Researches, analyzes, interprets and applies code criteria and standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
