Job summary

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to write reports, correspondence, presentations and procedures.
  • Passion and interest in Fire code safety and exceeding client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, fire protection design, fire alarm/mass notification design, performance-based engineering design, smoke control system design, and computer modeling under the direction of a senior consultant.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports on assigned tasks to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Assist in resolving design problems, including field investigations, detailed design work, and coordination of design aspects.
  • Identify applicable codes and standards for evaluation.
  • Conduct basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm system reviews, smoke control reviews and hydraulic calculations.
  • Apply engineering calculations such as size, means of egress, building area, sprinkler and smoke control provisions.
  • Perform fire hazard and dust hazard analyses.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, clients and others.
  • Position may involve some CAD document preparation/production.

JENSEN HUGHES has an exciting career opportunity for an early to mid-career Fire protection Engineer located in our Virginia Beach, VA office. We are looking for a candidate with strong interest or experience in Fire protection. Recent graduates in engineering fields are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, fire protection design, fire alarm/mass notification design, performance-based engineering design, smoke control system design, and computer modeling under the direction of a senior consultant.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with good professional service practice standards.
  • Assist in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
  • Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.
  • Conduct and document assigned work such as basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic fire sprinkler and water supply system reviews, including hydraulic calculations.
  • Apply engineering calculations such as size required, means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment.
  • Perform fire hazard and dust hazard analyses.
  • Effectively communicate with project team members, clients and others.
  • Position may involve some CAD document preparation/production
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or higher and 0-3 years' experience
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations and procedure manuals, and to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and the general public
  • Passion and interest in Fire code safety and in exceeding our client expectations.
  • Candidate must be local or willing to relocate to Virginia Beach, VA. This is not a remote position; the candidate will work side-by-side with staff in the Virginia Beach office.
