Job summary

City of El Paso is seeking a Fire Prevention Inspector under an unclassified contract position. The role conducts patrols, inspections and enforcement of the Fire Code and municipal codes to safeguard life safety across City facilities and sites.

Responsibilities include inspecting interiors and exteriors of commercial and industrial buildings, reviewing plans with contractors, issuing notices and citations, and presenting findings in meetings or court as required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or higher and 3 years of code enforcement experience.
• Texas Class C Driver’s License or equivalent; certification as Texas Fire Inspector within 6 months.
• ICC Fire Inspector I certification within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Patrol, inspect, investigate and enforce the Fire Code and municipal codes to ensure life safety.
• Inspect interiors and exteriors of buildings to detect fire hazards and exit adequacy.
• Provide findings to owners/managers and issue corrections; issue summons for hazards.
• Inspect gasoline distributors and issue permits; conduct fire prevention programs.
• Inspect new/remodeled sites; review plans; interpret code requirements for stakeholders.
• Issue stop work orders; sign permits; maintain records; testify as needed.
