Job summary

Sycuan Fire Department is seeking a dedicated Firefighter Paramedic to protect guests and residents. You will suppress fires, provide patient care, and transport to facilities as needed.

Expected to maintain certifications and assist with investigations and public safety education. Qualified candidates will hold a California Paramedic license, pass the internal firefighter exam, and maintain CDL plus CPAT/Biddle credentials.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Paramedic license in California in good standing.
• Must pass internal firefighter written test.
• San Diego County Paramedic accreditation in good standing.
• In-house Physical Abilities Test (CPAT/Biddle) required.
• California Driver's License in good standing.
• BLS, ACLS cards required.

Responsibilities

• Suppress fires, provide medical care, and protect life and property.
• Perform fire suppression, rescue, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul.
• Maintain knowledge of duties of other station personnel.
• Occasionally serve as Acting Officer-In-Charge when qualified.
• Maintain up-to-date data and information for duties.
• Inspect and test ambulance equipment.
• Complete medical reports and document patient care.
• Maintain all required certifications.
• Transport patients to medical facilities as needed.
• Perform other duties as directed by Fire Captain.

Firefighter Paramedic

Job Purpose:

Suppresses fires, preserves life and property from the elements of disaster and renders medical care to sick and injured

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

(Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at the sole discretion of Sycuan Management at any time)

1. Participates in fire company activities including fire suppression, rescue, public assistance, fire investigation, fire prevention, pre-fire planning, fire company training, public education, and routine maintenance of apparatus, equipment and fire department facilities
2. Performs rescues, fire suppression, ventilation, salvage and overhaul, medical aid and any other duties related to the preservation of life and property
3. Maintains basic knowledge of the duties of other personnel in the station
4. Performs duties of Acting Officer-In Charge when directed and if qualified
5. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in data and information necessary to perform duties
6. Inspects and tests ambulance equipment
7. Completes appropriate medical reports
8. Maintains currency of all necessary certifications as required
9. Provides patient care and transportation of patients to appropriate medical facilities as needed
10. Performs other duties as directed by the Fire Captain

Job Specifications:

Education and Experience:

Essential:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• State of California Paramedic license in good standing
• Successful completion of standard internal firefighter written test
• San Diego County Paramedic accreditation in good standing
• In-house Physical Abilities Test, CPAT, or Biddle Certificate
• CA Driver's License in good standing
• BLS CPR and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Cards

Desirable:

• Hazmat FRO
• 1 year paramedic experience
• Firefighter exempt Ca Driver's License in good standing
• State Firefighter I Certification
• Firefighter experience

Skills and Knowledge:

• Ability to pass annual BIA Pack Test to include donning a 45 pound hose pack (or equivalent) and walking a total of three (3) miles in 45 minutes or less
