Job summary

Arup in New York is seeking a motivated student engineer to support fire protection and life safety consulting within a multi-disciplinary team. You will assist senior engineers with design and reviews, helping clients incorporate fire safety concepts into projects.

This role offers exposure to a range of design challenges, site visits, and client meetings, with growth opportunities across a global advisory firm focused on sustainable built environments.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Planning and organizing abilities; proactive mindset.

Responsibilities

• Provide consulting for life safety, building, and fire code compliance.
• Contribute to development of prescriptive and performance-based design strategies.
• Assist senior engineers to incorporate fire and life safety concepts into design and review drawings for conformance with the strategy.
• Assist with development of fire alarm, detection, and fire suppression system design documents.
• Assist with site visits and communication with architects, contractors and consulting teams.
• Participate in internal and external client meetings.
• Adapt to working with multiple teams across offices in a multi-discipline environment.
• Assist with smoke control analysis, fire modeling, and dynamic egress modeling.
• Assist with the development of structural fire calculations and fire safety strategies for special hazards.
