Job summary

Forsyth County Department of Emergency Services seeks a Fire Engineer to defend lives and property by responding to alarms, rescues, medical calls and emergencies. You may drive firefighting equipment and operate at the scene under incident command, with responsibility for day-to-day operations of the unit.

The role includes rotating shifts, nights, weekends and holidays, and may require on-call duty. Strong emphasis on inspections, safety protocols and ongoing training is essential to maintain

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; two years of career firefighter experience.
• NC Fire Fighter Level I and II
• NC Hazardous Material Level I (Operations Level)
• NC EMT Basic
• NC Technical Rescuer-General with Ropes (2008) or NC Technical Rescuer-General (2013) or NC Technical Rescuer with Ropes (2021)
• Receives and responds to fire alarms; drives firefighting equipment and operates it at the scene.
• Conducts fire operations in rescue, attack, extinguishment, salvage and overhaul activities.
• Responds to hazardous materials calls; determines chemicals involved and what precautions to take to minimize losses.
• Responds to emergency medical calls and operates at the NC EMT Basic level and within protocols determined by the NC Office of EMS and Forsyth County Medical Director.
• Responds to rescue and technical rescue incidents and operates at a technician level to determine appropriate tactics and necessary resources.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire alarms and drives firefighting equipment at the scene.
• Conducts rescue, attack, extinguishment, salvage and overhaul operations.
• Responds to hazardous materials calls and determines precautions.
• Responds to emergency medical calls and operates at EMT Basic level.
• Directs rescue and technical rescue incidents and resources.
• Prepares required reports and maintains training and licenses.
• Maintains fitness to operate on emergencies and supervises day-to-day operations in absence of leadership.
