Job summary

Johnson Controls seeks a Fire Detection Inspector 3 to perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventive maintenance on fire alarm and life safety systems in customer sites. The role requires strong technical knowledge, independence in the field, and strict safety and documentation practices.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring accurate records, coding, and timely completion of inspections while providing excellent customer service and protecting life safety assets.

Qualifications

• Fire alarm license and the ability to obtain and retain any licenses required by National, State, and Local codes.
• 3 years of documented service experience in fire alarm or fire sprinkler systems.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, program schematics, and manuals.
• Experience using hand tools and a multi-meter.
• Demonstrated aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing repairs.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Able to perform physical labor up to 50-70 lbs.
• Able to work in ladders, scaffolding, or high lift equipment up to 40 feet.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
• Pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
• Strong customer service and teamwork.
• Self-starter with ability to work with little supervision.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

• Provide technical training to less senior inspectors and trainees.
• Complete assigned inspections on time and support other duties as assigned.
• Own inspections with accountability, safety, and integrity from start to finish.

Role Overview

The Fire Alarm Inspector 3 is responsible for routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler, or Fire Suppression systems and product lines, as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines. This role requires strong technical knowledge, a customer‑focused mindset, and the ability to work independently in the field while maintaining accurate records and high safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on life safety systems and related product lines.
• Work with low voltage wiring and associated devices used in the operation of low voltage equipment.
• Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as laptop computers or hard copy documentation.
• Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.
• Input, retrieve, and archive inspection documents using a laptop computer.
• Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.
• Provide technical training to less senior inspectors and trainees.
• Complete assigned inspections on time and support other duties as assigned.

• You will own each inspection with accountability, safety, and integrity from start to finish.
• You will stay close to the work, follow the inspection schedule, and remove obstacles that could delay service for customers.
• You will document work accurately, use the correct coding, and keep inspection records organized and accessible.
• You will use troubleshooting skills and sound judgment to make minor repairs and appropriate programming changes in the field.
• You will support continuous improvement by sharing knowledge, training newer inspectors, and learning from each job.
• You will collaborate respectfully with teammates, customers, and other stakeholders to complete work safely and on time.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
• Ability to adhere to and always follow safety guidelines and procedures.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment background check and drug test.
• Demonstrated high level of customer service.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Self‑starter who can work with little to no supervision.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $25.38 - $34.90 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
